Raising Our Joyful Sounds to God in Worship
Music has long been a joyous, integral part of our church. It contributes to the beauty of our worship service and the spiritual life of our community. Our music ministry is a unique opportunity to “sound the praise divine” in each of us. Our Music Director, Douglas Kostner, leads the congregation’s song.
Music in Worship is paired with scripture and sermon to complement and uplift on Sundays in ordinary times as well as the Advent and Lenten seasons and punctuates days of observance including Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Reformation Sunday.
Here at Larchmont Avenue Church music punctuates beloved traditions like our Annual Christmas Pageant, Youth and Earth Care Sunday.
We invite everyone to join us to raise their voices in praise.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings weekly, presenting anthems and leading the congregation in song. The requirements for membership in the Chancel Choir are enthusiasm, time, and goodwill; no audition is required. We work together to develop a unity that enables us to share God’s love and inspire our worship through music. The choir practices weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM in Russell Hall. For more information related to our Choirs, please reach out to Douglas Kostner, dkostner@lacny.org.
Advent Choir
For those not yet ready to make a weekly commitment to join the Chancel Choir, each year a special invitation is extended for all High School to adults to join us for the Advent Seasonal Choir.
Our choirs do not require auditions, we invite you to bring your voices and enthusiasm. For more information related to our Choirs, please reach out to Douglas Kostner, dkostner@lacny.org.
Sunday School Music
Our Sunday School welcomes children to explore their creative and spiritual gifts by sharing music. This fun encounter with scripture and song encourages the children to joyfully express their faith even as they build their skills in music, teamwork, and discipleship.
Larchmont Symphonia
Larchmont Symphonia, our string orchestra, made up of proficient players from our community, participates in worship several times a year, including Christmas Eve. The Symphonia explore instrumental repertoire for the church year and accompany the Chancel Choir and congregation in song.
Musicians in Worship
One of the special features of our music program is that it freely joins professionals with amateurs and draws on the surrounding community through collaborations with The Larchmont Music Academy
If you were to add up all of the participants in all of the musical groups and all of the guest musicians over the past year, you would find close to 200 singers and musicians engaged in making music at LAC during the course of the year. Your active participation and support makes it possible!
